Tribute to Dziadziuś

My grandpa was born in Poland in 1922. He was raised on a small farm where he worked as he was growing up. After the German invasion, at the age of 17, he was shipped to Germany to work as a slave laborer. Conditions were harsh - he and the other slave laborers were constantly hungry, wet and dirty and were forced to sleep on the ground. But he never lost hope and persevered until the war ended.

In 1981, he immigrated to the US with his family and worked until he was in his mid 70's. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, and feeding the birds and stray cats. In fact, his backyard became a favorite fast food joint for the local animals. My grandpa was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of faith and strength which he was, and always will be, admired for.

Dziadzo, we will always remember and admire the strength and courage you've shown throughout your life, especially in your last days on earth. We are blessed to have had such a great man in our midst. We love you and look forward to the day we will see you again. We hold on to the hope that was given to us by God through the resurrection of Jesus, of an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for us (1 Peter 1:3-4).

One of my favorite pictures...he was so excited for my grandma's 80th birthday celebration that he forgot to change out of his slippers!
